It was almost 3 years ago when we worked on this sweet backyard wedding… It’s so timeless!

Back when designing the wedding papers for Julia and Eli, I met them at the Bride’s mothers home where they showed me the Pepper Tree where they would be married. It was decided that I should illustrate it for their wedding invitations…. So that’s just what I did.

The pepper tree printed blind on museum board, with green type and then mounted to cedar veneer… I love using cedar for weddings – it keeps the critters away from a marriage, I like to think. and it smells so nice too! not to mention the warm coloration.

And just for fun, the save the date as well.

Thanks to Gia Canali for the photos and there are tons of wedding photos featured on Style me Pretty…

Last year we worked on Britt and Peter’s wedding invitations with Nicole Sillapere and Rosemary Events. All the paper goods for this wedding were tactile and warm even though the color palette was shades of white and grey.

The layers of this invitation were intricate – the was hand calligraphy for print, laser cutting, letterpress, mounting, hand tearing, ribbon binding, foil stamping and die cutting. It was tedious but worth it. And the vintage stamps came together so well, though we had to use some newer stamps because of the size and weight of the handmade heavyweight envelopes.

The wedding programs were also pretty special… small booklets printed on textured translucent paper with white cotton organdy covers with a simple stitch bind. these are my very favorite programs!

The escort cards echoed the invitations – handtorn with laser cut slits for the ribbon.

When everything came together what we created as a giant collaborations was truly magical!

Thanks to Abby Ross Photography for the amazing photos on this one. Check out everything on Style Me Pretty!

One of my favorite elements was the program. We used my very favorite stiff cotton organdy as the sheer cover of the program with two lavender plants attached to the cover page. The booklet was an ethereal sweet nugget!

I love and support the Joyful Heart Foundation. This year the theme for their gala is “How will you join?”

I was meditating one morning and I found inspiration. It’s an action that everyone can do, in that we breathe. We can inhale for peace, and exhale for joy. It somehow seemed so obvious in the moment to me.

This was the concept for a new Joyful Heart letterpress card. I printed a giant light pink heart and then used typewriter for the inhales and exhales, and my handwriting for the peace and joy.

The press was inked up in the same color scheme as the Gratitude cards. and I hand printed in two letterpress print runs, packaged the cards and sent them off to the foundation, all the while breathing peace and joy. This kind of work seems less like work and more like yoga, honestly….

I hope one day to have a whole line of Joyful Heart cards…. all communicating the messages that the foundation efforts to spread… peace, joy, reunion, gratitude, love….. the list goes on!

(everytime I print for the JHF, I get reminded of the heart pins on the back of the ink fountain…)

Tanda gives great meditation guidance and the energy in the room is amazing (not to sound too hippy dippy but….)

Tanda is a real cat lover and often asks about my business. One day she asked if I had any cat stationery…. possibly a meditating cat? with a golden aura perhaps? Well, I didn’t. But I have to admit, it was a great idea.

All I could think was “How in the world will i draw a meditating cat.” I do draw a little, but I am certainly not a trained illustrator. Then one day, I could just see the way the cat would sit. and i just sat down and drew that in pencil. The aura was easy – I just imagined what electric energy would look like and made some squiggly lines.

I decided to make this a little gift for my classmates. They were thrilled. I was too.

But it was the dog lovers in the room who felt a tiny bit jilted.

So next… Meditating Dogs! (how in the world am I going to draw a meditating dog…… )

Yesterday I was poking around a bookstore and I saw it on the shelf. That was the moment when it hit me that this artful social stationery which is usually marking a one time event in someone’s life has made it into a slightly permanent slot in a book which will be used as reference for awhile.

This makes me feel good!

These are the carrying cases that all my samples have to fit in when I take meetings outside of the studio. I carry them around like a traveling sales lady. I think that would be a fun job… to go door to door designing personal stationery for everyone. I would certainly get a good sense of their personalities!

Megan from Forget Me Knot Weddings Blog probably thinks I am a crazy person. In my interview, I talked about talking to pressed leaves and plants and once again personified my presses. (Good thing I didn’t mention that I am a like a single mother to my only child, TPP… and I spoil little TPP. ok. this IS sounding kinda kooky)

But she was sweet enough to post the interview despite my silly typed out answers. And I am very proud of being featured on her blog. It makes me smile…

Here is a photo of a plant application. This one was adhered to wood veneer (hey, that rhymes!). I really did let the energy of this little plume guide me on all the invitations.

Ok. that’s enough kook for any blog post.

I was so happy to be mentioned on Style Me Pretty for Negar and Peter’s wedding invitation… We worked together last summer to design the perfect invitations that would set the tone for their romantic nuptials at the California Club in Los Angeles. What they really wanted, and I think we delivered, was a very timeless invitation that was subtly romantic…. and not at all “cute”… something that they will love as time passes…. something very classic.

To get there I used hand calligraphy for print for their names and charcoal grey ink (I liked the idea of it being grey instead of black as if years had taken their toll and faded the print) with just a little bit of victorian floral embellishment… popped in my inked up press and mashed on a textured but cleanly cut stock…. et voila. It did just the trick.

thanks to Gia Canali for taking the pictures… again! check out Gia’s blog for some other photographs of this wedding and invitations…
